This has been an exciting week for us. We found a snake, we lost the snake, then we found a tortoise. We've also captured a scorpion previously (to the chagrin of several family members). Kristi says all we need to catch now is a bat.
Jimmy was in the bathroom when he suddenly started yelling that there was a snake. Jimmy has a touch of the dramatic in him, so we didn't exactly believe him. By the time someone went to check it out, there was no snake. Later, when Mom went to do some laundry, she made the same discovery.
So they called me at work to find out how to catch the snake. When Robert got home from work, he did them a favor and caught it.
At first Jimmy was really scared of it, he would look but not touch. Kristi, on the other hand, thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. She would hardly leave it in the bucket. She'd go out at night and catch crickets for it. After a little while, Jimmy became okay with the idea of touching it and would do so very timidly.
After about a day, Jimmy was a snake tamer. He told everyone about the snake and we found that the snake could become an incentive for Jimmy (and used that to our advantage). Every morning he would wake up and get dressed quickly (we didn't know he could do that!) so he could say good morning to the snake. They had to check on it after every school day and before they could go to bed. Sadly though, Vegas has been a windy place as of late. Yesterday the bucket blew over and our friend slithered away. As you can imagine, several small folk were very distraught.
This morning, Amy and I were awakened by these same small folk with a surprise. A new pet had been discovered! A tortoise was discovered in our yard. So I guess that will help ease the pain from the loss of our dear friend the ground snake.

Red touches black, you're okay, Jack. Red touches yellow, you're a dead fellow. Good thing it wasn't the second.
Wow I can't believe how brave Kristi is! I think I'd prefer the second pet. :)
Sydney- we were relieved, too.
Shennie- yup. She's a brave kid. I don't think anything would have stopped her from holding that snake. But she loves the second pet just as much. It really likes her garden. She sat outside reading next to it this morning before school.
Just floating through your awesome blog and am amazed to find that Robert's engaged!?! When did that happen? Is there a date?
He got engaged in May and is getting married August 27th. Announcements are going out soon.
